We’ve have a lot of progress to celebrate at Maisto Mountain right now!
On March 1, our kitchen countertops arrived from Unique Granite in Owensboro, Ky. The “luna pearl” granite was installed quickly and efficiently and completed our custom look for the kitchen. Sarah had to run her hands across the granite and open every cabinet when she visited on March 4 and was finally able to see the new kitchen in person. It’s a great feeling to see your kitchen come together!
The Finch-Newton public water supply began trenching and making its way to our home in late February. The final hookup from the hydrant to the home was completed on March 2. We have water! This might not seem a significant step, but it’s a major step in beginning to finalize the home’s interior. With water also comes the clearance to be able to install sink fixtures and toilets, and our master bath shower will soon be tiled.
Having a water supply also meant that we could finalize and start up our geothermal heating system. The geothermal loop was sunk in the pond on March 5, and the unit was “fired up” for the first time on the same day! We have heat, too, thanks to our wonderful HVAC guy (my brother).
Meanwhile, Brad has been painting like crazy. He has the home’s first floor completely painted, and the basement has been primed. He also has been plotting for how the special talavera tile that we brought home from our trip to California last spring will be placed in the backsplash of the kitchen, and with a friend’s help, Brad and Sarah have picked a pantry door color for the kitchen. We also have picked up our ceiling fans, and our electrician has begun installing outlets and soon will begin installing light fixtures.
When we first started this process, we had really thought we would be moved into the home by now, but our learning process has taught us that patience is virtue (especially for Sarah). At this point, we are working toward doing what is needed to finish the basics, pass inspection, and move in. We can finish the basement and all the fine details after we move in and begin enjoying our new location.
However, while we wait, we try to enjoy celebrating each new step of progress and enjoy showing the progress to family and friends who are interested in visiting the job site. We also enjoy seeing the seasons change on the land. We went for a hike this past weekend on the land and enjoyed seeing the creek beginning to run, mostly clear paths through the forest, and daffodils and bright green moss peaking up through the fallen leaves. We know the landscape will continue to change as summer approaches.
We hope to have more to report soon. Until then, we make a little progress each day!
