Exciting progress has been happening on Maisto Mountain this week. We’re being framed! So far, the basement, subfloor, and upper exterior walls have been framed by Biggins Construction of Boonville, Ind. The crew fought through this week’s rain (with only one rainout day) to get all of that work accomplished this week. Next week, we hope to see the home’s main floor interior walls framed and for the trusses to arrive for the roof. We can really begin to see the size and the shape of the home! For me (Sarah), especially, it’s been very exciting to see the progress each day and see the way the home is shaping up. I have a history of being dimensionally challenged. My reaction has gone from, “Wow, that concrete pad looks small to really, our house is that big? It didn’t look that big on paper!” I just have no concept of space. I once rented an apartment in an 1800s renovated home in Richmond, Ind., and my poor father and some others had to wield my furniture up a 45-degree angle staircase to the apartment. Had I measured? Visually, of course, but I didn’t technically measure anything with – you know – a tape measure. Fortunately, I’ve never had a major disaster. I’m prepared for this home, though, and trying to overcome my mathematical challenges. I at least have my own tape measure and calculator for this move! While on the job site, Brad is getting acquainted with the local wildlife. He has reported a coyote, a red fox, a whole gaggle of wild turkey, swallows, and butterfiles. He also has found persimmons growing on the edge of the woods. (Persimmon pudding will be in order each Thanksgiving!) And, to top it all off, one of the workers on the framing team has been fishing daily. He has caught blue gill, and there’s a picture in the rotation of the worker and one of the biggest bass you’ve ever seen. I guess we can always have fish tacos on the grill if Brad starts fishing. Meanwhile, back in Avon, my new boss, Pastor Jeff, and his wife, Linda, have been very generous to load up their van and my little Fiesta a few times with their emptied boxes and packing material from moving. As a result, I’ve been able to make some great progress packing knickknacks, pictures, and other non-essential items for living. It has been great! Thanks again! That’s the progress for this week. Hope you’re enjoying it as much as we are! | |
